What Is Rheumatoid
Arthritis?
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is one of the most debilitating types of arthritis. It can make even the simplest tasks impossible. The pain can be crippling at times.
In RA, your natural immune system attacks healthy joint tissues within the body. Research shows that in RA, the body overproduces a substance known as TNF-alpha. This is one of the causes of inflammation, which may lead to the symptoms of RA.
Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Swelling of the joints
- Stiffness in the morning or when you’ve been inactive
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Fever
- Muscle Pain
- Joint Pain
- Rheumatoid nodules or cysts like lumps under the skin close
to the joints
As the condition worsens, you could experience severely swollen
or tender joints that can become deformed over time. Patients with
RA experience systematic symptoms so they feel pain on both sides
of the body at once.
RA gets worse over time, so early diagnosis is key.

What
Is Crohns Disease?
Crohn’s Disease is a disorder where the body’s immune
system mistakenly thinks it’s under attack. The body reacts
to this false attack by overproducing the protein called TNF-alpha.
This causes inflammation in the intestinal tract that can produce
great pain.
Symptoms of Crohns Disease
- Abdominal pain
- Cramping
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Rectal bleeding
- Weight loss
- Fever
- Joint Pain
- Fatigue
- Sores around the anal area
These symptoms can flare up at any time and usually show up after meals. Pain and cramping is usually centered in the lower right part of the abdomen.
How
Does Remicade Work?
Remicade is a “TNF-alpha antagonist.” It’s a genetically engineered protein that binds to the TNF-alpha of patients with RA and renders it incapable of performing normal functions. Inflammation is dramatically reduced and so is pain and suffering.
This is truly an advance in science that rivals the introduction of penicillin to the world of medicine. Research shows Remicade™ effectively reduces the joint destruction and substantially reduces the pain and inflammation associated with RA and shows promising results for patients with Crohn’s Disease.
Our Remicade™ patients are serviced in our dedicated Infusion Center at Regional Consultants. The process is simple, but because Remicade™ must be administered by intravenous (IV) infusion it can take a few hours.
We want your stay here to be a relaxing one, so we go to great lengths to make sure you’re comfortable during the procedure. We provide refreshments, portable DVD players and a variety of movies for your entertainment.
We take care of all your needs and provide the most excellent level of care to ease any stress you may have. A physician assistant and a doctor are always on the premises in addition to at least one of our RN infusion specialists and regular medical assistants.
Your experience at our center will be an exceptional one in every way. Besides the care of the patients' primary disease, we take all the necessary steps to protect your privacy and provide the physical and emotional comfort you need.
Patients insurance needs are taken care of prior to their visit. Currently, the Infusion Center works with different doctors throughout Northeast Florida. Infusions are also offered at our satellite offices in addition to our San Marco Center.
